Johnny Idaho was born and raised in Nampa, Idaho.  And yes, he does like potatoes.

He grew up in a musical family. His grandmother was a classically trained violinist, his mother toured with choirs as a singer, and his father played tuba in the University of Idaho Marching Band. Steve’s parents believed in the importance of music and got him playing piano since the age of five. At fourteen, Steve and his brother each spent $50 to buy a drumset that had been in a neighbor’s attic for 15 years. Steve was instantly hooked. Like the fat kid in dodge ball, Steve never stood a chance.

Johnny Idaho has performed at Carnegie Hall, St Peter’s Basilica, St. Mark’s Cathedral, banquets, house parties, and once on the back of a semi in front of a barn in Idaho.

“I try to make everything in my life as much fun as possible. Whether I’m on stage with Panic Disorder, selling insurance, or getting pulled over for speeding, I always try to find new ways to entertain myself and have the best time I can. Dr. Seuss was right, ‘It’s fun to have fun, but you have to know how.’ I was raised to live like that. The wide-variety of music is what draws me to Panic Disorder. The songs can be playful, aggressive, funky, loud, smooth, or balls-out rock your ass off, and all those things within the same set. It’s very cool to catch a vibe from the crowd and be able to deliver on whatever they’re looking for at the time. It makes the gigs a lot of fun.”

Johnny Idaho plays a Gretsch Maple Renown Special drum kit with a Cherry Burst finish with Sabian Cymbals and a Ludwig Black Beauty snare drum. He plays the Buddy Rich Signature Series drums sticks from Vic Firth.
